Research activities
Environmental pollution with metals and xenobiotics is a globa problem, and the development of Phytoremediation technologies are currently available for only a small subset of pollution problems, such as arsenic and heavy metals. Present research activity is focused on two branches. The first one is arsenic, and heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Ni, Cd and Cd) behavior in plant physiology. Plant physiological aspects of the arsenic and heavy metals research investigates mechanisms of arsenic and heavy metals uptake, internal transport and metabolism, particularly on how plants adapt to high levels of arsenic, the genetic mechanisms behind adaptations, with the aim of breeding crop plants, such as rice and wheat, for low grain arsenic. Also, environmental chemistry aspects of the work is interested in arsenic and heavy metal sources and cycling within the environment
The second branch of my research activities is plants that have essential oil or some aromatic products which act as anti bacterial, anti fungal and parasitism. Also, some regeneration, tissue culture and genetic parameters such as genes responsible to make these products are studied, regarding plants are studied.
